Moon Festival, all know as Mid-Autumn Festival, is one of the most
widely celebrated traditional Chinese holidays. As other
traditional Chinese holidays, Moon Festival is celebrated at August
15th of Chinese lunar calendar, which is around end of September or
early October of western solar calendar. Every month, the moon is the
fullest at the 15th of lunar calendar. Mid-August of lunar calendar
also indicate the heat of summer is receding and the weather is turning
cool and cozy.
Chinese culture is highly symbolic. People in China also use the
fullness and brightness of moon to celebrate the reunion of all family
members.
Moon cake is the holiday snack. Different types of moon cakes really
show the creativity of Chinese food. One thing in common for all is the
shape is always round. The full round shape resembles the full
moon and symbolizes family reunion.
Traditionally, family members have dinner together and appreciate the
moon while eating moon cakes. Moon is so important in Chinese culture,
there are a lot of poems or tales about moon.
