The people's Republic of China currently maintains one Embassy in
Washington D.C., but also maintains 5 consulates-general in the
following U.S. cities: New York, NY; Chicago, IL; San Francisco, CA;
Los Angeles, CA; Houston, TX. Ordinary passport holders from Singapore, Brunei and Japan can gain access to China without applying for visas for up to 15 days for business, sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends, or transit. They can enter and exit from the ports that are open to foreigners. Citizens of all countries need visas to enter into China EXCEPT applicants listed above. Single entry visas allow you to travel into China ONE time. Double entry visas allow you to travel into mainland China TWO times. That means you can go into mainland China, then out of China - say back to the United States or over to Hong Kong, and then you may re-enter into mainland China a second time. There are also multiple entry visas available to busines travelers, those visas allow you to enter in and out of mainland china an unlimited number of times during the dates specified on your visa. Multiple entry visa holds 6 months or 12 month validity. Multiple entry is very favorable for business people with frequent trips to China. If you have not been issued a Chinese visa before, the host company in China should request an invitation from the Foreign Ministry (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) specifying multiple entry for a period of six or 12 months.
