During the Spring and Autumn Period. Fuchai of Wu Kingdom captured Goujian of Yue Kingdom. In is captivity, Goujian did everything to make Fuchai believe if he is released back to Yue, he would not do anything to revenge Fuchai. After returning to his own country, Goujian decided to toughen his strength and will by sleeping on firewood and tasting gall bladder in order not to forget the shame of captivity. Eventually, Goujian led Yue defeated Wu.
